Futa Fata is to publish a series of four children’s books in 2009, a co-edition with the Catalan publisher, Gemser. The series, titled “Bímis ag Caint Faoi!” tackle a number of social and emotional isssues every child deals with – “Gach Dath Faoin Spéir” celebrates the multi-cultural, multi-racial world in which our children are growing up; “Is Cuimhin Liom Róló” deals with the death of a pet and the wider issues of loss; “An bhFuil Rún Agat” examines the issue of secrets, and how to distinguish between a secret that is fun to keep and one that should be shared with a care-giver. “Céard a Tharla idir Mamaí agus Daidí” deals with a child’s feelings about the break-up of a marriage.

The “Bímis ag Caint Faoi!” series will be available in January 2009.

COGG, An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta and Gaelscolaíochta are providing support for this publication.

Other titles coming soon! - 5.06.08

Futa Fata hopes to publish six new titles in 2008. The audio book CDs Eileanór an Eilifint Éagsúil and Frog sa Spéir are at the printers at the moment. They feature the voices of Caitlín Ní Chualáin (familiar to fans of the Gugalaí Gug CD) as well as three young actors from Conamara – Oisín Ó Fatharta (above), Caoimhe Ní Choisdealbha and Aoife Ní Nualláin Ní Thuathail. The sound recording and production for these two audio books, has been supported by funding from Foras na Gaeilge. We are also planning to publish Irish-language versions of two beautiful picture books for younger readers – Gobnait Gé and Oíche Dhorcha. This latter title has received funding from An Chomhairle um Oideachas Gaeltachta agus Gaelscolaíochta (COGG) and will be available in May.

Another big publication this year will be Aifric – a lively mix of interviews, quizzes, pics and behind the scenes info on the hit teen comedy drama, which won the 2007 and 2008 Irish Film and Television Academy Award for best young people’s programme as well as the 2008 Celtic Film and Media Festival Award in the same category.

We are also working on the second book and CD in the series of traditional material begun with the best-selling Gugalaí Gug! This new project is a collection of traditional songs, titled Peigín Leitir Móir. The recording and production of the CD has been supported by Ealaín na Gaeltachta and is ongoing in Conamara at the moment.
